Testing and Counseling Search Overview

The Testing and Counseling Search section of the Gifted Resource Center provides you with an opportunity to look for professionals and organizations that perform a variety of services and/or have a particular area of expertise in the field of gifted education. Types of services include administering intelligence tests, assessments, academic advising, in-depth academic counseling services and psychological therapy. Before beginning your search for a suitable professional, it is important to evaluate your needs regarding the nature of the services for which you are looking.

Although all testing and counseling professionals have training and experience that allow them to understand and work with a variety of individuals, parents and professionals alike have recognized that the extreme levels of ability characterized by gifted youth often require a professional who has direct experience working with gifted individuals.

Institute staff has personally interviewed each professional included in the Gifted Resource Center. While the Institute does not recommend or endorse any specific organization or professional listed, those included in this section have been selected based on their ability to properly serve gifted young people and their families. We strive to provide you with the most detailed and accurate information; however, we cannot guarantee this is the most up-to-date information. We encourage you to actively explore each of the resources you are interested in before committing to any professional or organization.

In addition, the Institute has also provided a comprehensive list of possible Testing and Counseling Interview Questions, FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions), and a Glossary of Useful Terms to assist you when conducting your own research. Please use this list to guide your efforts in finding the most appropriate testing and counseling professionals and/or organizations.
